Riding Tips

Riding Rain Ruts
Deep rain ruts can be very challenging and even dangerous, especially when they are parallel to the direction of travel. Over the years and after many thousand of miles covering rain rut infested trails, I have developed two specialized techniques for riding rain rutted trails:

  1. When there are many rain ruts criss-crossing the whole trail, the method that works best for me is to ride standing up on the pegs, relaxed on the bike and looking as far ahead as possible to determine where the rut goes.
Try to cross them at an angle, going from side to side on the trail.
This way you lessen the danger of crashing when your front tire gets stuck on the rut and your momentum throws you to the side or over the bars.
  2. When the rut is wide and deep, I try to ride within the rut, sitting down on the center of the bike, lifting my feet and keeping the throttle on.
With some practice, you can really ride fast through the rut with this method.

If the rut is downhill, don't be afraid to use your feet for braking, control and dabbing.

Good riding and don't hesitate to contact me via e-mail for more information and techniques!
